Volunteers will build a new half-mile segment of the Ice Age Trail next week south of Paoli.
The segment connects to the Badger State Trail just south of the corner of State Highway 69 and County Highway A. It heads east before turning south along Piller Road.
Organizers expect up to 50 volunteers will help build a 40-foot pedestrian bridge and clear a trail along a state Department of Natural Resources-owned easement that runs near a farm field, said Brad Crary, eastern field representative for the Ice Age Trail Alliance. But the IATA is looking for more volunteers.
Free food and camping at New Glarus Woods State Park will be available. Car pools will run from the camp site to the work site.
The event runs from Thursday morning, Sept. 24, through noon Sunday, Sept. 27. Volunteers can show up for part or all of the event and should bring sturdy boots, leather gloves, water bottles, sunscreen, long-sleeved shirts and pants and other camping gear if they're staying overnight.
The half-mile segment is part of a plan to run the Ice Age Trail from the Badger State Trail to the Brooklyn State Wildlife Area within the next several years.
